Our Programs
Columbia Green protects and restores our urban canopy, promotes green infrastructure, and supports local gardens and beautification through community-focused programs. We give away native trees to property owners through Beat the Heat, we fund green spaces across the city through our Community Grants, give away groves of trees for school and church campuses through Trees for Campuses, and sponsor an annual Festival of Gardens. We are proud to support a range of initiatives that improve our urban habitat through our programs, projects, and partnerships.
Our Beat the Heat program is designed to plant as many new shade trees on private property as possible—and it’s funded through private and corporate donations and grants. By planting and maintaining our free trees, you can be part of the solution to beat urban heat and help us restore our urban tree canopy.

Columbia Green Community Grants
Green spaces are essential to healthy urban habitats, providing critical support for wildlife and pollinators. We’re proud to champion local initiatives by investing in community projects that nurture people, animals, and our ecosystem.
Trees for Campuses
Our Trees for Campuses program provides schools, churches, and other nonprofit properties with up to 50 free shade trees. This initiative scales up our Beat the Heat—Plant a Tree program by providing the benefits of shade trees to schools, area colleges, and churches to create campus green spaces.
The Festival of Gardens
Columbia Green’s Festival of Gardens is an annual fundraiser to support our urban canopy and green space initiatives. Each year, we work with gardeners in one Columbia-area neighborhood to provide a tour of backyard gardens usually hidden from public view. Our goals are to inspire and inform and invite us all to build community around horticulture.
