Nuttall Oak—Quercus texana

Large | Deciduous | Height: 60-80 feet | Spread: 50-60 feet

This oak, native to the lower Mississippi River Valley, is a beautiful, large shade tree providing rich, red orange fall color. Unlike some other species of oaks, Nutalls drop all their leaves in the fall. The tree grows up to 80 feet tall with a 50-60' spread. The canopy is open and rounded and somewhat resembles that of a Red Oak. It adapts to most soil conditions and is drought-tolerant once established. It is highly adaptable to urban conditions and does well as a street tree.

The Nuttall is host to several species of moths and butterflies and its acorns provide food for deer, squirrels, and other small animals.
