We launched Beat the Heat in July of 2024 with the first of 20 quarterly educational luncheons where we provide opportunities for property owners to learn from certified arborists about proper planting and care of trees to mitigate urban heat and restore our urban canopy.
Beat the Heat is a partnership between Columbia Green and the City of Columbia with funding provided through grants from the USDA, the Arbor Day Foundation, International Paper, the Central Midlands Council of Governments, and private donations to Columbia Green.
Since our launch of BTH in July, we have funded almost 1000 trees to be planted on private property in greater Columbia.
