Columbia Green awarded City Center Partnership grant money for plantings on Main Street
Main Street is a little brighter with the addition of 30 hanging baskets and a new "pocket park" near the former Tapps Department Store, thanks in part to a $3,000 grant from Columbia Green.
Columbia Green awarded City Center Partnership grant money for plantings in the newly-created Tapps pocket park and for 30 bright and colorful baskets hanging from light posts. The park, paved with bricks and decorated with a wall fountain, has yews, liriope grass, fig vines and yaupon hollies. The hanging baskets are brightened with begonias and sweet potato vines.
CCP was founded seven years ago to manage Columbia's downtown business improvement district bounded by Gervais, Elmwood, Assembly and Marion streets. The organization manages public space, promotes economic development, markets services and acts as a public advocate for downtown Columbia. It applied for a beautification grant through Columbia Green's community grants programs, and the grant money was used for plants and soil amendments on this project.
