2009 Festival of Gardens a Huge Success
With mild temperatures prevailing, more than 300 people enjoyed meandering through the Forest Hills and Tanglewood neighborhoods on May 14 and 16 during Columbia Green's annual Festival of Gardens. This year's delight was the ability to park-and-walk to many of the gardens due to their close proximity, according to participants.
While visitors were drawn primarily from the Columbia area, some came from as far away as Orangeburg, Charleston and even Chamblee, Georgia. After an enjoyable day of viewing the 12 different gardens,
they enjoyed a quiet tea party at the home of Dr. and Mrs. James Reynolds on Westminster Drive. Treats and delicious flavored teas were donated by the Gourmet Shop in Five Points with owner Linda Hiltner on hand to pour beverages.
This 19th annual tour was made possible with the help of more than 100 Columbia Green and nearly 50 Master Gardener volunteers. Columbia Green is very indebted to these volunteers for helping guide visitors through the gardens and answering any gardening questions that were posed!
Proceeds from the tour are used to further beautify and enhance the Columbia area through plantings on medians, in parks and at a variety of other areas. Columbia Green spends nearly $40,000 annually in its beatification projects and in grants to like-minded organizations.
